Switch?
Recently, I bought a new sleek Aluminun 20″ iMac. :)
Am I going to switch to Mac? Actually No.
I purchased a Mac for my photogrpahy needs, however, I would be still using my old “reliable” Windows platform for my other development needs. But recently, I have been using my Mac 90% of the time. I do post processing of my photos, watching movies and animes, word processing, printing, and a little bit of research. I really do find it:
- Easy to use
- Very fast in starting up
- Realiable (doesn’t crash down yet)
- Easy to install new applications
- Seemless integration with my current devices (devices I used with my Windows PC such as printers, scanner, routers, etc.)
- Great display (nice to view photos and do some color adjustments)
Overall, I really love it. I am having lots of fun using it. So if you are also a newbie Mac user, I do suggest you to have these applications. ;)
- Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac
There is no 2008 version yet for PC. Btw, it is similar to 2007 PC version. It can already open documents saved from Office 2007. All you have to do is open the file and continue working with it in your Mac. So if you have those docx, pptx, xlsx, and etc file extensions, you don’t have to worry about converting them. They are cool and ready to use.
- Adobe Photoshop CS3
Of course, you need this powerful tool for your post processing. I have used several tools already including free and opensource like GIMP but Photoshop does have some nifty advantage, though I am still looking for an alternative. For Windows I have used GIMP, Paint.NET, and Aviary Web Tools (this one looks promising and it is online).
- UnrarX
This handy tool helps you uncompress RAR files. Since I am using a PC, I do have lots of file compressed using RAR format. The best thing about it is — It’s free. :)
- VideoLAN (VLC) for Mac
If you are a movie buff like me, then you need this powerful video player. Get it here.
- Flickr Uploaded for Mac
If you use Flickr as your photo hosting service then definitely you need this one. You can visit mine – here. ;)
- Skype for Mac
- Yahoo! Messenger for Mac
